  • PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
    Metformin is an oral diabetes medication helping in the control of blood sugar. It is meant for those suffering from type 2 diabetes. At times it is used together with insulin or other medications however it does not treat type 1 diabetes.

    DOSAGE
    Follow the exact prescription as given by your doctor or pharmacist.
    Do not increase or reduce the dosage and do not take it longer than advised unless by the directives of the doctor.
    Take Metformin with a meal as recommended by your doctor.
    It is just one part of a complete treatment that includes diet, weight control and exercise.
    The extended-release Metformin should not be crushed, broken or chewed, swallow the whole pill. If it is broken, too much of the drug may be released at once causing an overdose.
    Blood tests need to be done during treatment. Blood sugar needs to be checked carefully when you are traveling, stressed or when exercising more than usual, when you take alcohol or skip a meal. These can affect the level of glucose in your blood.
    When you have a fever from infection, become ill or is having surgery you need to stop taking Metformin.
    You may be required to take extra vitamin B12 with this drug, take just what the doctor has prescribed.
    If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember and if it is near the next schedule just take the next, don’t take double dosage.

    STORAGE
    Store this medication in a tight container away from moisture, heat and light and at room temperature.
    Keep it out of reach of children and pets.

    SIDE EFFECTS
    Some people may develop lactic acidosis when using this medication. If not treated in time the symptoms may worsen and even become fatal. Call your doctor if you have nausea and vomiting, muscle pain and weakness, stomach pain, trouble breathing, slow heart rate, numb or cold feeling on arms and legs, dizziness, and feeling of tiredness.
    You are likely to develop lactic acidosis if you have congestive heart failure, have liver or kidney diseases, are dehydrated, have a severe infection or takes large amounts of alcohol.

    PRECAUTIONS
    Do not use this drug if you have allergy towards metformin and its ingredients.
    Do not use it when in a state of diabetes ketoacidosis; call your doctor for insulin treatment.
    Temporarily stop using metformin Australia when you need to have any type of scanning or x-ray where a radioactive dye is injected into your blood.
    Tell your doctor if have a history of heart disease or liver and kidney disease.
    Tell your doctor if you have a category B pregnancy or plan to get pregnant during medication.
    It is not known whether Metformin passes into breast milk so talk to your doctor before using it when breastfeeding.

    WARNING
    Metformin Australia should not be administered to children less than ten years.
    Extended-release metformin is not recommended for children below 17 years.

    Avoid taking alcohol as it lowers blood sugar therefore increasing your risk of lactic acidosis.
